BLACK MILK NO POISON NO PARADISE TOUR AT THE PAGODA

09/29/13
The Pagoda
170 S Market St. San Jose, CA

Black Milk will be hitting the road on his No Poison No Paradise Tour, a 23-city tour through North America set to begin on September 20th in Dallas, Texas. Joining the tour is live band Nat Turner (Aaron “Ab” Abernathy on keys and vocals, Malik Hunter on bass, Z Horton on drums and Bill Sharp as DJ), as well as guests Quelle Chris and DJ Sober. Black Milk will perform music from his new album, No Poison No Paradise, which is due out October 15th via Fat Beats/Computer Ugly.

“I’m looking forward to hitting the road again with a new album on the way and new music to perform,” says Black Milk, “Nat Turner and I have great chemistry together, and we push the show to new heights every year. This run will be the best yet.”

Black previously released two singles “Sunday’s Best/Monday’s Worst” and “Perfected On Puritan Ave,” introducing listeners to some of the themes from the upcoming album, which is structured conceptually as a series of dreams in the mind of a fictional character named Sonny, Jr. The album art and tour flyer depict some of the imagery from Black’s lyrical content, and were created by Dallas, Texas artist Joonbug. Be sure to check the tour when it comes to a city near you.

3on3 Last Bboy/Bgirl Standing

*PRELIMINARIES will be regular battles; Last Bboy/Bgirl Standing comes into effect with Top8

3 competitors from both sides come to battle. The first two dancers exchange rounds and the judges vote immediately afterwards, and the loser of that round must sit down, making it 2v3. Battle continues until one side is completely eliminated. Hypothetically, 1 dancer could defeat an entire 3 person squad.

Soulebrity / “Freestyle Elements” Open Styles Cypher Competition

SOULebrity was created by Flo-Ology in 2003. This is a gathering for dancers of all styles to share the cypher to an eclectic assortment of fresh beats (house, hip hop, breaks, funk, and much more).

The KEY however is ‘PARTICIPATION’. You can compete, but the point of Soulebrity is to have many circles, with everyone from non-competitive dancers to the audience getting down to great music and enjoying the vibe! To come to this event is to experience and enjoy this raw, thriving underground culture and community. All we need from you is your vibrancy!

The Cypher Battle Breakdown:
– There will be 3 competitive cyphers. Hosts = Judges.
– Invited hosts will inspire and dance with all contestants. After a one hour cypher 9 dancers will be selected.
– The top 9 will then dance with the hosts in a final cypher.
– Each host will award $250 to one of the finalist; therefore the possibility of 3 winners. If all 3 hosts select the same dancer, that dancer wins the full $750!

About: LOS RAKAS

Los Rakas are a bilingual hip-hop group made up of Panamanian cousins Raka Rich and Raka Dun based in Oakland, California. Their style consists of a mixture of hip-hop influences with reggaeton, reggae, and dancehall. Los Rakas derive their name from the Panamanian slur “Rakataka,” a derogatory word for someone from the ghetto, or an impoverished neighborhood. In 2010, Los Rakas entered a new era of their career with their hand-picked slot alongside Cypress Hill, Snoop Dogg, Erykah Badu, and Manu Chao at Snoop Dogg’s Smoke Out Festival. From there, the group has gone on to release their debut EP Chancletas y Camisetas Bordada and prepared a track with prolific producer Diplo. Los Rakas have achieved widespread success without the need of a major label.
