The 2nd Annual Black Joy Parade

Black Joy Parade Headliner

On Feb 24th the 2nd Annual Black Joy Parade will hit the streets of Oakland. The parade is a live experience that celebrates the black community and provides a space to champion black culture, past, present and future. This year’s theme is: Crown Your Joy, so come ready to enjoy music, dance, food, activities, black vendors and more!

A kid zone, healing village, Hennessy lounge, Black wineries, dominoes, beauty bar, food, soccer tournament and more

PLUS we’ll be having a GRAMMY nominated headlining performance for FREE

Parade participants also will get a chance to compete for a Best in Flow award which will give 4 different an individual or group in the community a grant to help them achieve what brings them joy.

A total of $10,000 will be divided equally among the four winners of four categories:

  • Best Choreography: Includes things like dance routines, step shows, and creative struts.
  • Best Outfit: Includes costumes, props, makeup, etc. Be bold and dress to impress!
  • Best Ride: Includes things like cars, bikes, motorcycles, and floats. Basically, anything with wheels!
  • Best Overall: Awarded to the individual, group or organization that brings the most overall creativity and joy to the Black Joy Parade procession. The winner of this award does not have to qualify for any of the other 3 categories.

14,000 people came to last year’s parade. You won’t want to miss this years!

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Everyone is welcome to the parade, but you must be 21+ to drink.

What’s the best way to get to the event?

The start of the parade (14th St. & Harrison St. Oakland) is a 4 minute walk from the 12th street Oakland Bart station. We recommend public transportation as parking is limited.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Positivity Meets Excellence at the 1st Annual Black Joy Parade 

Gather in Oakland’s Black Arts District at 12:30pm for the 1st annual Black Joy Parade – a hyper-positive procession showcasing the undeniable energy, creativity and excellence of the African American community and its influence on cultures past, present and future.

The parade procession will be made up of several Black dance troupes, a New Orleans style second line, faith-based choirs, Black Greek steppers, two Black motorcycle crews, the famous Skraper Bikes and more!

The Parade Celebration will feature the Grammy-nominated artist Jidenna, SOL Development, The Seshen, poets, and additional performances.

The Black Joy Parade celebration will also feature:

Black-owned arts and crafts vendors

Kids Skateboard Contest

Walk-up Dominos Tournament

Black Vines, a Black-owned wine collective
