SOM. Presents: Exile (MPC/DJ Set) x Monk One (Wax Poetics) at SOM with special guest King Most On April 16th SOM. brings together the sounds of two respected names that have been standouts in the global underground community for years.
On one side of the map is Exile, a Los Angeles dj and producer who has made producers reevaluate their track records via his excellently crafted beats for hip-popers like 50 Cent, rising rap freshman such as Blu and Fashawn, to even making an impressive album purely from the hiss, hum, and static from AM & FM L.A. radio waves. But did we even mention his dexterity? Watch his series of youtube videos where Exile himself turns the drum machine from mere studio equipment to an actual live instrument one button push at a time.
On the other side, New York City, dwells DJ Monk One. A veteran NYC deejay who’s a stalwart in that glorious cities ever changing nightlife. Amongst the string of triumphant club nights where he’s made dancers forget their troubles to disco, latin, hip-hop, and soul sounds he labors by day shining a light on past unknown, forgotten, and celebrated musicians via Wax Poetics magazine. The quarterly magazine has long been a bible to music enthusiasts worldwide that ask just a little bit more from there music; providing the answers to the “Who, What, Where, When, & Why?”. Supporting the bi-costal bill is Bay Area spinmaster and producer King Most, adding his own celebrated take on hip-hop, disco, and dance floor favorites.
