HIEROGLYPHICS

Oakland’s own underground hip-hop collective, Hieroglyphics, takes the stage with their signature battle rhyming and freestyling over funky and jazzy beats.

Opening the afternoon will be Oakland-based dance crew Mix’d Ingrdnts and the B-boys of the Golden State Breakers.

Hieroglyphics will be participating in an informative pre-concert Artist Talk, moderated by Davey D, at Stern Grove’s Trocadero Clubhouse at 12:00 noon on the day of the concert.

Local nine-piece soul and funk band Midtown Social opens the show with danceable grooves.

The fabulous Janelle Monáe brings her futuristic funky sound to kick off Stern Grove Festival’s 79th Season at The Big Picnic. A true performer, Monáe is recognized for her powerhouse R&B tunes, commanding stage presence, and a dynamic fashion sense defined by black and white power suits.
