Dream Day 2019
Sat, August 17, 2019
Celebrating the life and legacy of one of Oakland’s finest.
Michael “Dream” Francisco was one of Oakland’s prolific artists, locally renowned and globally respected, not only for his innovative and original style, but also for his community and social justice outlook.
In 2010, ten years after his death, the City of Oakland proclaimed the day of his death, February 17th, Dream Day, to honor the contributions he made to the City.
August 15th, 2019 would’ve been 50 this year.
We plan to have live painting on wooden standalone panels along the perimeter of the event. There will also be a gallery section with completed artwork featuring local artists.
Along the MacArthur side of the park, we plan to have a full stage with professional audio equipment for Bay Area DJs, artists and performers, there will be TDK booths for black book signing, a memorial section for Mike including original artwork on display, a documentary screening, and an instillation paying homage to the history of graffiti.
This will be a family friendly event with local food vendors, interactive arts and crafts activities and a dance floor.
With your support in celebrating Mike Dream, we hope to build community by honoring the legacy of one of our own local legends.
We intend to educate and continue to enrich the lives of the longtime residents of Oakland, as well as newcomers, through artwork and community involvement.
