We have a very special edition of The Foundation this Saturday at SOM. We’re celebrating the birthday of our very own, DJ Mr. E. Not only is Mr. E a highly celebrated DJ in the Bay are, but he’s also the co-owner of the Bay Area landmark restaurant, Papalote. Mr. E has not only shared his musical talents with the Bay, but he is also a friend of the community and great supporter of positive change and growth in the community. He constantly donates his time and food to help others.
With that said, we invite all of you to come help celebrate his special day. It’s time we give some love back! We also have a VERY SPECIAL GUEST: DJ PREMIER of Gang Starr, that will be playing at his birthday. He hails from New York City and is a living legend behind the turntables as well as one of the best producers in Hip Hop. Trust, you won’t want to miss this event.
Happy Birthday Mr. E aka Miguel Escobedo. We appreciate you and what you continually do for the Bay Area.

DJ PREMIER (also known as Preem, Premo, or Primo for short), is an American record producer and DJ, and was the instrumental half of the hip hop duo Gang Starr, together with emcee Guru. Born in Houston and raised in Prairie View, Texas, he has lived in Brooklyn, New York, for much of his professional career. Rolling Stone identified Premier as arguably Hip-Hop’s greatest producer of all time.
The Source named DJ Premier one of the five greatest producers in hip-hop history, while the editors of About.com ranked him #1 on their Top 50 Hip-Hop Producers list. He also made the “Elite 8” in the search for The Greatest Hip-Hop Producer of All Time by Vibe.

MIGHTY will play host to the bay area’s debut of DJ Premier vs. Pete Rock: The Battle, on Friday, September 30th, at 9PM. The two will scrimmage head-to-head in a classic DJ battle with two adjacent DJ setups. Bay area staple and world-renowned Beat Junkie DJ Shortkut will be holding down the opening slot with Fran Boogie hosting the event. Advance tickets go on sale Tuesday, July 26th 10AM at eventbrite.com/thebattle.
Perhaps Hip Hop’s most respected producers, the New York based DJ Premier and Pete Rock have been releasing classic material for 20+ years. Premier’s Gangstarr releases, with partner Guru, were instrumental to the culture, not to mention his collaborations with Jay-Z, Notorious BIG, Nas, Rakim, Big L and KRS-ONE to name just a few. Pete Rock’s release with partner CL Smooth, Mecca and The Soul brother, is critically acclaimed and birthed classic tracks such as “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)” and “Straighten it out”.
