MIGHTY will play host to the bay area’s debut of DJ Premier vs. Pete Rock: The Battle, on Friday, September 30^th, at 9PM. The two will scrimmage head-to-head in a classic DJ battle with two adjacent DJ setups. Bay area staple and world-renowned Beat Junkie DJ Shortkut will be holding down the opening slot with Fran Boogie hosting the event. Advance tickets go on sale Tuesday, July 26^th 10AM at eventbrite.com/thebattle.

Perhaps Hip Hop’s most respected producers, the New York based DJ Premier and Pete Rock have been releasing classic material for 20+ years. Premier’s Gangstarr releases, with partner Guru, were instrumental to the culture, not to mention his collaborations with Jay-Z, Notorious BIG, Nas, Rakim, Big L and KRS-ONE to name just a few. Pete Rock’s release with partner CL Smooth, Mecca and The Soul brother, is critically acclaimed and birthed classic tracks such as “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)” and “Straighten it out”. Pete Rock has collaborated with a slew of Hip Hop’s elite including Nas, Slum Village, A Tribe Called Quest, Slick Rick, Talib Kweli and Run DMC, and the list goes on and on.

Before becoming a trio, the Triple Threat DJs, comprising of legendary DJs Shortkut, Apollo and Vinroc, all but conquered their genre. They were introduced to the art form as youngsters through mobile DJing and evolved into world-renowned turntablists. Triple Threat represents the future of turntablism, precisely because they’ve been so instrumental to its storied past. Though they have championship-level skills at scratching and beat-juggling they also know how to rock a party, produce music and create original compositions with two turntables. They are not just djs, turntablists, producers, musicians or club djs, they encompass all aspects.

The crew has been around for a decade and has grown to be 8 members deep. Every single member–DJ Platurn, DJ Spair, DJ Mere, Joe Quixx, Ammbush, DJ Enki, DJ Zeph, and DJ Icewater– is at least 15 years deep in the DJ game, and each one showcases the diverse skills and musical knowledge that have become the Faders’ calling card. From glitzy clubs to grimy underground spots, radio shows to b-boy throwdowns, funk 45 nights and electro parties, the Faders cover all the bases.

45 LIVE premiered at SXSW 2010. The party features vinyl 45 sets from the Stones Throw crew all night. MIGHTY is proud to premier it in the bay area w/ the Stones Throw Records crew and our favorite local heavyweights.

In the age of digital DJing it is seldom that you get to hear an all vinyl set an entire night, let alone 45’s. Vinyl will supply us with a warmer, richer sound, while MIGHTY’s Richard Long and Associates analog system will set the organic feel for a classic night of music.
