New York City’s Sneaker Culture: 1960-1987,” the Landmark Book Written By Bobbito Garcia at Mighty (119 Utah Street, San Francisco). To celebrate, New York City rap radio legends Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito aka Kool Bob Love reunite in San Francisco by dropping sets featuring music from 1960-1987. Local heavyweight DJs Shortkut and Proof will perform opening deejay sets that will set the night off right, with host Fran Boogie handling the mic to keep the party hype!

Bobbito Garcia is a native New Yorker and a recognized worldwide authority on sneakers, music, and NYC playground basketball. The former New York Knicks / MSG Network halftime reporter was the voice of EA Sports’ popular NBA Street video game and the TV host of ESPN’s “It’s the Shoes” series. In 2013, Garcia and Kevin Couliau co-directed the documentary film Doin’ It In The Park: Pick-Up Basketball, NYC. Currently, he is the announcer for ESPNU’s Elite 24 Game and the Red Bull King of the Rock Championship, and he spins records weekly on his www.eastvillageradio.com program. Garcia lives and works in Harlem, New York.

Stretch Armstrong is a New York-based DJ/Producer with a worldwide reputation. Starting out playing at the now-legendary downtown clubs like Mars, Nellâs, and MK, Stretch earned a reputation as an exciting newcomer that was not afraid to take chances and be original. He gained a popular following playing the latest hip-hop, reggae, and house music, packing dance floors with a seamless, aggressive mix. Though it wasn’t till he landed a time-slot on Columbia University’s WKCR (89.9FM) that things really heated up on a much grander scale. Once a week, beginning in the winter of 1990, the Stretch Armstrong Show broadcasted Stretch’s 4 hour hip-hop mix, which featured new music from New York’s best, as well as a mix of breakbeats, past classics, freestyles, not to mention his irreverent on-air antics with his co-host, Bobbito. About Shortkut
Shortkut began his DJ career in 1987 with Just 2 Hype!, a mobile DJ soundsystem based out of Daly City, California. In 1994, J Rocc, the “Funky President” (Stones Throw Records), invited Shortkut to join his internationally acclaimed collective of DJs and producers, The Beat Junkies. In 1995, Shortkut, DJ Q-Bert and Mixmaster Mike (Beastie Boys), formed the Invisibl Skratch Piklz, a legendary turntable band that led a new era in the DJ/turntablist world. The Invisibl Skratch Piklz went on to become the most influential DJ crew of all time. In 1999, Shortkut, along with world DJ champions Apollo and Vinroc, founded the Triple Threat DJs. These DJs all shared the same philosophy of combining raw turntable skills for the hardcore, while satisfying dancefloor crowds. This musical philosophy exploded with the birth of the Triple Threat DJs, and is now what DJs around the world follow today. With 20+ years of DJ experience and membership in three of the world’s most influential DJ collectives allowed him to enhance his skills. Shortkut continues to add to his discography through creations in different areas of music production, mix projects and more recently, video mixing. With the addition of the visual element to his DJ sets, Shortkut continues to innovate and lead in progressing the art of DJing.
