Beastie Boys Remixes by Al Lover in Honor of MCA

In honor of a great man, Adam Yauch – who throughout my formative years onto adulthood inspired me in countless ways, I have remixed a couple tracks from one of the greatest hip hop records ever recorded, Paul’s Boutique. This album has had such an impact on my life and my art and I wouldn’t be doing what I do today without it. Rest in Peace MCA, your were a beautiful person and may the positive impact of your life and creativity vibrate through the universe eternally.

Al Lover is a producer from the San Francisco-based hip-hop outfit The Fist Fam. Over the last few years he has gained much notoriety for his melding of garage and psychedelic rock into spacey boom bap style hip-hop instrumentals. His story began when he remixed the Woodsist catalog, and Al’s last two projects–“Distorted Reverberations”, an exploration in sampling the current works of such rock acts as Ty Segall and Thee Oh Sees, and “Safe as Milk Replica“, a reworking of Captain Beefheart’s first record–were highly praised and talked about by many including Rolling Stone and The LA Times’ blog. Combining crunchy drums, shaky percussion, chopped samples from genres unexplored by most hip-hop producers, and the use of multiple effect pedals, Al Lover has created a sound unlike anything else. The antithesis to the highly compressed and squeaky clean trend, Al Lover offers a more earthy, ugly and loose approach, that sounds more like you’re listening to a drunken garage rock band play live than a beat made on an MPC 2000xl.

FIST FAM “DRINKIN”

We’d like to proudly announce the Fist Fam’s newest video “Drinkin” produced by Al Lover from their latest release ‘Posted’.

The video is a glimpse into the humble backwoods beginnings of these southern boys turned San Francisco stoop dwellers. Filmed in the moonshine mountains of Asheville, North Carolina at Fist Fam member Philo’s childhood home, the video recalls a simpler time for the group when drinking beer with family and friends on a warm sunny afternoon was all you needed. Though times have changed, we still hold fondly to these memories. So grab a can of your favorite domestic beer, crack the top and raise a toast with The Fist Fam to the good life.
