Dholrhythms Dance Company Celebrates 10 Years

Co-founders and headliners of Non Stop Bhangra, Dholrhythms Dance Company celebrates a milestone of 10 years of teaching and performing in the San Francisco Bay Area. The first Non Stop Bhangra event was hosted to celebrate Dholrhythms 1 year anniversary. Since its inception, Dholrhythms has grown into a boundless and unique platform for people of diverse backgrounds to come together, express themselves, and dance in a non-competitive and positive environment.

In Celebration of this milestone, Non Stop Bhangra is mixing up the vibes this month to celebrate the SF Bay Area artistic community that Dholrhythms has been a part of for a decade. The night will bring together some of Dholrhythms favorite local creatives and collaborators to create a mashup of vibrant musical flavors from Cumbia, Reggae, to Hip-Hop mixed with the energy of Bhangra.

The night begins with the “Baraat Mob” an instrumental jamm session with live horns, and dhols drums to get people warmed up leading into an interactive, fun, jam packed Bhangra dance lesson, followed by beautiful dance performances by Dholrhythms Dance Co.

The night will continue with special guests Aima The Dreamer and Bang Data performing live for the first time at NSB at Public Works. J. Boogie(OM Records), who has been a part of Dholrhythms journey from the beginning is going to mix it up aon the turntables alongside NSB residents DJ Jimmy Love and Rav-E with Pavit & Mehul rocking the dhol drums. Beyond sound and dance, Non Stop Bhangra caters to your eyes all night with visuals by DJ Amar.

Aima The Dreamer has been rockin’ crowds for years as a vocalist and MC with groups such as J-Boogie’s Dubtronic Science, The Mamaz, Goddess Alchemy Project and Jazz Mafia’s Brass, Bows and Beats Hip-Hop Symphony. Bang Data is formed by Bay Area’s MC Deuce Eclipse on lead vocals, who’s well known by hip-hop fans as an accompanying voice to the legendary Zion I and musician/producer Juan Manuel Caipo who helped propel the latin alternative music scene in the Bay Area early on in his career. Mixing Rock, Reggae, Hip-Hop & Latin beats and infusing them with a soulful bilingual (English/Spanish) delivery by Deuce Eclipse, Bang Data has created a sound that is unmistakably theirs. The group has performed with acts such as Calle 13, Ozomatli, Zion I.  Their first single Bang Data from from their full length ‘La Sopa’ was featured on the hit AMC TV Drama Breaking Bad Episode “Salud”.

This is going to one of a kind cultural mashup creating an experience only found in the Bay Area.

For those that still don’t know what NSB is:
Imagine a scene from a Bollywood movie smack in the middle of a thumping nightclub—swirling colors, the rhythm of pounding feet, and the relentless energy of brilliant beats-that’s Non Stop Bhangra.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T: Ain’t I A Woman – Panel & Performance about Women in Hip Hop

Hip Hop was born in the South Bronx of New York in 1977. The 80s and 90s gave rise to several female hip hop stars, including Roxanne Shante, MC Lyte, Salt ‘n’ Peppa, Queen Latifah, Missy Elliott, Foxy Brown, Eve, Lil’ Kim, Trina, Da Brat, and Bahamadia (The Roots). However, since 2000, women have been systematically pushed out of the mainstream. In 2011, the infamous Lil Wayne-backed Nikki Minaj is the last woman standing. Through a thought provoking panel and a subsequent musical performance this two-part program will explore the presence of female MCs in the field and the challenges they face and, ultimately, overcome.

Panel will be moderated by Davey D. from Hard Knock Radio.

Jazz Mafia 12 Year Anniversary at the Fillmore Nov. 17th w/ special guest DJ QBERT

Jazz Mafia 12 Year Anniversary at the Fillmore Saturday November 17th

Performances By The Jazz Mafia Symphony, Special Guest appearance by DJ QBERT performing with the Jazz Mafia Symphony, Realistic Orchestra, The Shotgun Wedding Quintet, Adam Theis & SUBHARMONIC, Aima The Dreamer, Dublin, Soulati, Joe Bagale, and more

SAN FRANCISCO, CA- The Jazz Mafia will be celebrating their 12 Year Anniversary on November 17th, 2012 in their hometown of San Francisco at the historic Fillmore Auditorium, just across town from the Mission District, where the collective formed in 2000 by bandleader Adam Theis.  The show features special performances by each of the Jazz Mafia artists and groups including The Jazz Mafia Symphony, Realistic Orchestra, The Shotgun Wedding Quintet, Adam Theis & SUBHARMONIC, Aima The Dreamer, Dublin, Soulati, Joe Bagale, and more.  Very special guest DJ QBERT will be performing a solo set before joining the 35 piece Jazz Mafia Symphony for the grand finale.

“I’m so proud,” says Theis as he looks back on the past 12 years of the Jazz Mafia. “I feel like we’ve helped a lot to break down musical barriers by encouraging collaboration across the genres of Jazz/Classical/World and Hip-Hop.  There has never been a Jazz Mafia group that played derivative music, it would be too easy that way.  We’ve always challenged ourselves, kept it eclectic, fresh, forward thinking with respect to the past and definitely gangster.”

Theis states that there are more special guests to be added to the anniversary line up. “We’re going to be bringing in many of the collaborators whom we’ve worked with through the years as special guests,” says Theis.  “Were still confirming many of them but as always expect some of the best talent in the world.  “We’ll also be featuring many visual/dance artists whom I’ve been connecting and collaborating with through my Treat Social Club Series that was started this year.” That’s all I can say for now!”

The Jazz Mafia has been very busy the past few years with their debut of the highly acclaimed symphony Brass, Bows, & Beats in 2010, and symphony #2, The Emperor Norton Suite, in 2011.  That same year, the Jazz Mafia Symphony took The Emperor Norton Suite on the road for the first time including a performance in front of 10,000 people at Summer Stage in Central Park with Roy Ayers, and a hometown show at the Stern Grove festival. The Jazz Mafia Symphony are currently gearing up to release their first studio album with The Emperor Norton Suite, the follow up to 2010’s live Brass Bows & Beats album.

In 2010 the Jazz Mafia celebrated their 10 year anniversary, and completed their break-through summer tour where they performed “Brass, Bows & Beats” in front of tens of thousands at major festivals nationwide including the Montreal Jazz Festival, Newport Jazz Festival, Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl, and the Monterey Jazz Festival. The group’s bold and interactive creativity and stage presence captivated audiences across the continent. Now, in 2012, they are captivating audiences across the country with “The Emperor Norton Suite”.

This year also saw the the emergence of Adam Theis’ new project, Subharmonic.  The 5 multi-instrumentlists of Adam Theis & Subharmonic create the sound of everything from a futuristic Mega-Orchestra to 1920s Cotton Club Dubstep by sampling, looping, layering and manipulating an array of brass instruments.

Pre-sale tickets for The Jazz Mafia’s 12 Year Anniversary are available now until Friday 10/12/12 at 10pm with a discounted service fee at  The general on sale for the public will be Sunday 10/14/12 at 10 am at
