BEATS AND LUMPIA II: Celebration of Filipinos in Hip Hop

“Beat” [beet] noun: A main accent or rhythmic unit in music or poetry
“Lumpia” [loom-pee-uh] noun: Filipino spring rolls

October is National Filipino American Heritage Month. On Friday, October 21st 2010 Shine Clothing, MissChief916 and DJ Rated R proudly present the 2nd annual “Beats and Lumpia,” a tribute to Filipinos in the local Hip Hop community, in celebration of Filipino American History Month. This is the only event of its kind in Sacramento, CA and we are excited to spotlight the talented Filipinos in Hip Hop.

The event will showcase Filipino American emcees/rappers, vocalists, deejays/turntablists, dancers, visual artists and more. It will be held at the Sol Collective located at 2574 21stStreet, Sacramento CA 95818. The event doors open promptly at 6:00PM and will event at midnight. This is an all-age event with the admission price of $5 presale and $7 at the door. Included with admission is a live show (music performances, live art, dancers + more) and lumpia! More Philippine cuisine will be for sale at the event.

As a culmination of two weeks of competition featuring the best 13 – 19 year old MC’s in the Bay Area, this final will be hosted by Do Dat of the Attik, and judged by illustrious Bay Area MC’s including 2011 Freshmen 10 MC Rafael Casal, Kiwi, Denizen Kane, Dom Jones, and others.  The Champion will earn the opportunity to compete in the Brave New Voices MC Olympics, on Teambackpack.com, and bragging rights to represent Youth Speaks and The Bay Area as the 2011 Olympic Champion.
